When the colonization of Lethinus was completed, and the first void vessels began to arrive with trade goods, the first spaceport was located in the Morticis Upland. However, after a century of use the spaceport was victim to a tragic accident. The bulk hauler “Handsome Profit” belonging to the Rogue Trader Antonin Aquairre suffered a critical reactor breach upon landing approach. The resulting explosion utterly destroyed the spaceport along with many other ships already docked, which belonged to Aquairre’s trading rivals. The unfortunate accident not only destroyed the spaceport and the vessels, but also thoroughly irradiated the entire region, rending it uninhabitable. The Mortis Wastes, as the region subsequently became known as, is a wasteland dotted with the corpses of buildings and vehicles – but as it was also the first spaceport built, especial care was taken with the transit roads, which survived the accident virtually unscathed. To this day, the Mortis Wastes provide quick transport to any willing to risk its lethal radiation levels.
